Age at Enrolment
You must be at least 18 years old.
Professional Foundation
PADI Divemaster or a qualifying equivalent. Ask us to review your certification.
Months as a Certified Diver
At least six months as a certified diver before starting the IDC.
Logged Dives for TDB
TDB asks for 100 logged dives before the intake. Bring your logbook for review.
Months · CPR & First Aid
CPR and First Aid training completed within the previous 24 months.
Months · Dive Medical
A dive medical statement signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.
PADI’s general IDC minimum is 60 logged dives; 100 are required for the IE. TDB asks for 100 before its intake. EFR Instructor certification is also required and can be completed during instructor training.

The Instructor Development Course is your preparation and training with a Course Director. It includes the Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor components. The Instructor Examination is a separate assessment conducted by PADI examiners. Instructor certification depends on successfully meeting all training and assessment requirements.
How Much Time Should I Plan on Tioman?
The published 2026 calendar has a 13-day IDC date range followed by a two-day IE. Optional preparation is listed separately as two days. Ask the Course Director to confirm your exact arrival and departure dates, preparation sessions and accommodation before arranging travel.
Can I Enrol with Fewer Than 100 Logged Dives?
PADI’s general minimum is 60 logged dives to start an IDC and 100 to attend the IE. TDB’s published entry requirement is 100 before its intake. Contact the Course Director with your experience and logbook to discuss preparation and a suitable training path.
What Does the Package Cost?
Request a current quotation from the Course Director. Confirm the training, materials, accommodation, preparation days and any PADI application or examination fees in writing. No price or place is confirmed until the team has reviewed your requirements and arrangements.
Are Accommodation and Additional Instructor Courses Included?
TDB’s published package includes accommodation during the IDC, PADI materials, EFR Instructor, Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor and Enriched Air Nitrox Instructor training. Each rating has its own requirements. Confirm your room, covered nights and the final inclusions with the Course Director.
Can I Get Teaching Experience After the IDC?
TDB lists optional internship opportunities for qualifying candidates. Ask the team about current arrangements, eligibility and timing. An internship or a course place does not guarantee employment or certification.
