The PADI Open Water Diver Course is your first scuba certification. Start with no diving experience and build real underwater skills, one step at a time.
Learn to use your equipment, control buoyancy, plan a dive and work with a buddy. Practise in shallow water before heading into Tioman’s ocean, with multilingual PADI instructors helping you turn knowledge into experience.

Chat With Your Dive BuddyDo I Need Previous Diving Experience?
No. This course is designed for complete beginners. Your instructor introduces equipment use, underwater breathing, buoyancy and safety procedures, then helps you practise step by step.
Do I Need to Know How to Swim?
The course includes a 200-metre swim or 300-metre snorkel, plus a 10-minute float. You do not need to be an advanced swimmer, but you must complete the water skills assessment. Speak with us first if you are unsure about your water confidence.
What Are the Age and Depth Requirements?
The minimum age is 10. Ages 10–11 earn a Junior Open Water Diver certification with a maximum depth of 12 metres; ages 12–14 earn a Junior certification with a maximum depth of 18 metres. From age 15, the standard Open Water Diver certification has a maximum depth of 18 metres. Junior divers must follow the applicable supervision requirements.
What Should I Prepare Before Arrival?
Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, toiletries and comfortable clothing. Scuba equipment is included. Complete the five-chapter PADI tutorial videos before arrival, and fill in the course medical questionnaire in advance. Obtain medical clearance before travelling if the questionnaire requires it.
What Certification Will I Receive?
After successfully completing the knowledge assessments, confined water skills and four open water dives, you receive the PADI Open Water Diver certification. You can then dive with a buddy within the limits of your training, experience and age.
What If I Do Not Pass This Time?
Full course fees still apply. Under the current course arrangement, you can return within one year to retake the course, paying for accommodation and meals. Contact our team to arrange your next training visit.
How Do Dates and Payment Work?
Choose your accommodation and room option on the product page and add it to your cart. Review the number of guests in your cart, then proceed to checkout to choose an available arrival date for each package. Enter the lead guest’s contact details and pay in full. Contact us for special arrangements, group enquiries or the course-only option.
